A serious contemplation of education

For those of you that know me, you are quite aware that I'm not incredibly thrilled with my current job.  I work in the financial industry, mostly doing pawn like work, and while the job itself is fine, it lacks the ability to keep me interested.

The past few years I've thought long and hard (that's what she said) about what I've wanted to do with my life.  With pawn like work, I've felt like I've had no real direction or purpose.  If you've ever been in this position you can understand how stressful, depressing and demotivating it can be.  It was only a few weeks ago that I realized I may have found the direction I probably should have gone years ago . . . Nutrition.

On Saturday I attended an Open House at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition.  I had been researching the school for a bit and decided to attend to get more information.  There were lectures on adrenal fatigue and nutrition in relation to memory retention and the psychology of disease.  I felt incredibly comfortable as I sat there like a sponge absorbing all this fascinating information.  I gathered all the information I could and left feeling invigorated about the possibility of finding a career that was meant to be.

As I continue to ponder each day, I'm realizing that it might be time for me to go back to school; as terrifying as that feels since I graduated college nearly a decade ago.

Step one:  Apply

...and then we wait...

  1. Hey there,
I stumbled upon your blog via a post on the Everyday Paleo FB page and then found myself here, lol. Hope you don't mind random strangers firing questions your way!
I was just wondering about your decision to go back to school. I am interested in studying holistic nutrition and am looking into the CSNN (actually going for a tour tomorrow) and the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. Have you started at the school? Any thoughts you could share?
    Thanks!

  2. Hi Kathryn!

I'm actually just starting the application process for the Institute of Holistic Nutrition (just got my transcript from my old College today). I'll be applying for the September Full Time schedule this year. I did look into CSNN as well, mostly just through their website, though. The open house at IHN was such a wonderful experience, I decided to go with them.

CSNN looks like a good program and their course load is fairly identical to IHN. Let me know how your tour goes! I'm also curious about CSNN.

  4. Thanks for your reply! I stopped by CSNN last week and had a great meeting with the coordinator. But...I think I have decided to wait before going back although I may take a few courses. I wish I could do everything!
But I think I will just focus on shooting right now - and I may be shooting loads of paleo desserts in the near future (keep your eye out for "primal indulgence" treats - starting up a wee baking business!)
I will keep up with your blog to see how your nutrition courses are going (as well as your primal living and photography!)
